Salt aerosol from ocean-adjacent installations (within 2–3 miles of the coast) corrodes the spark electrode's stainless shroud and the spark generator's internal contacts. Grills in Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Manhattan Beach typically need igniter service every 4–6 years; inland Glendale/Pasadena installations often go 8–10 years. Covering the grill when not in use roughly doubles service life. A&Y carries OEM DCS igniter assemblies and spark generators.
Usually not. The regulator's excess-flow valve trips whenever the propane valve is opened too quickly or burner knobs are on during tank opening. The fix is a full reset (close tank, close all knobs, wait 2 minutes, slowly reopen tank). If resets don't hold, the regulator diaphragm itself may be fatigued — a $180–$260 part replacement. A&Y diagnoses this during the $85 diagnostic and applies the fee toward repair.
DCS grills are built on a 304 stainless frame designed for 15–20 years of use. The frame, hood, and cooking grates outlast everything else. Burners, igniters, and valves are serviceable through year 15 easily. Replacement ($4,500–$9,000 for a built-in Series 9) rarely makes sense before frame corrosion appears — typically year 18+ in coastal zones, later inland. The stone island cutout makes swap-outs expensive too.
